Ingredients

Main ingredients group

500g cake flour
2g salt
2g ground cloves
10g ground cinnamon
5g ground ginger
5g bicarbonate of soda
300g sugar
300g sugar
200g Stork Baking Margarine
5ml powdered red food colouring (bolus)
1 egg
25ml vinegar

Step by step method

  1. Sift dry ingredients (excluding powdered red food colouring)Â together and rub in Stork Bake.
  2. Beat egg and vinegar together.
  3. Combine ingredients and mix into a stiff dough.
  4. Leave to stand overnight.
  5. Take a piece of dough and work red bolus into it.
  6. Roll out the remaining dough to a thickness of 5mm.
  7. Arrange strips of red bolus dough on rolled out dough and roll out again to a thickness of 5mm.
  8. Cut out rounds of dough using a glass of about 50mm in diameter.
  9. Bake at 200ºC for 10 minutes.
