Ingredients
4 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup sugar
200g Stork Yellow Baking Margarine, cold
1½ cups buttermilk
1 egg
Step by step method
- 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- 2. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
- 3. Add the cold Stork Yellow Baking Margarine to the flour mixture. Work it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles a breadcrumb consistency.
- 4. Pour in the buttermilk and knead the dough until it no longer sticks to your hands. (If necessary, add more flour, one tablespoon at a time.)
- 5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a 2cm thickness. Use your preferred cookie cutter to shape the scones. In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg. Brush the tops of the scones with the egg wash.
- 6. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve and enjoy!
