Ingredients

4 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup sugar
200g Stork Yellow Baking Margarine, cold
1½ cups buttermilk
1 egg

Step by step method

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. 2. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. 3. Add the cold Stork Yellow Baking Margarine to the flour mixture. Work it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles a breadcrumb consistency.
  4. 4. Pour in the buttermilk and knead the dough until it no longer sticks to your hands. (If necessary, add more flour, one tablespoon at a time.)
  5. 5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a 2cm thickness. Use your preferred cookie cutter to shape the scones. In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg. Brush the tops of the scones with the egg wash.
  6. 6. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Serve and enjoy!
